Pidariamman Koil Kulam

PidariammanKoilKulam is a local pond owned by the Revenue Department and maintained by GCC. The pond has no inlet or outlet. The water is Brownish Black in colour. Algae bloom is seen in the pond.  Pond is not connected to any upstream and downstream water sources. Pond gets storage during the monsoon and inflow from the nearby streets. Pond is deepened to get increased storage. Benefits from the implementation of this project include improvement of water quality by providing aquatic floating island and diversion of sewage discharge. Due to de-silting, water storage will increase and made available throughout the year. Fish culture will be developed. The pond serves as a spot of recreation to the local residents. With proper counseling and guidance by the GCC Engineers, the Resident Association will take care of the pond and hence, water body will be protected. The pond has been restored under the Chennai Smart City project funds
