CHENNAI: More than a year after its launch under the smart city initiative, Greater Chennai Corporation will revamp its Namma Chennai app to make it more interactive and user-friendly.
While the app offers a channel to get hyper-local issues heard and addressed, users said complaints are closed within 24 hours without getting resolved.
A week ago, old complaints went missing from the app’s ‘My Complaints’ section. The bug has been fixed now.
With the new update, the app can detect the user’s location using GPS. At present, complainants enter location details. With no GPS location, officials make several calls to the complainant to reach the location. “There is an issue when a location would fall on the boundary of two wards and there would be confusion in alerting ward engineers. The issue is being dealt with,” said an official.
Through the revamped app, the corporation can alert residents about civic work in their areas. “There will be an option to post communication related to the ongoing work in a particular ward to the residents. A text blast will be sent to all users in the ward,” the official said.
The app that was recently updated to allow residents to file property tax and download birth and death certificates will be integrated with the upcoming Command and Control Centre (CCC) at Ripon Building. “The app will become the source for data on issues such as waterlogging and mosquito breeding. It will enable various departments under the umbrella of CCC to carry out multi-dimensional analysis using the data,” said an official.
Residents in some parts of the city said while the app sent out a text message when a complaint was made, there was no message alert when the complaint was closed by the corporation. “When we receive a message for booking a complaint, we should receive it when it gets closed too,” said P Sajeev of Perungudi.
An official from the EDP cell said the problem was rectified and a message should reach the user when the complaint is closed. “Maybe in some particular cases it is not working,” the official said. Read More..
